97 Super Sport - How to open hatch with dead battery?

The rear hatch on my 97 super air will not open. I believe the battery is dead or the switch is malfunctioning. How do you manually open the hatch? I tried this afternoon and it would not budge??

On my excel you take out the back seat, pul the pin which connects the actuator to the hatch and then lift it manually.

Yes take out back seat, remove the thin carpeted panel, and then pull the pin on the ram and lift..........

Total PITA. Get a second battery and put your battery selector switch under the back seat. I always leave mine on either battery 1 or 2 when it is going to be parked for a while. That way the other battery is defninitely good if one goes out. I have done the crawl under there entirely too many times. Both in my SAN, and in my old v drive BFN.
