1999 SAN - Dinged Prop :( Please help!

I chewed up my prop this weekend and it's not something we can just grind out. I'm now looking for a new prop for my 1999 Super Air Nautique. I've been to nearly every site/forum out there getting in know, but still am uncertain as to which prop would be best for my set up.

The prop I chewed up is a 4 blade, which I know I want. I'm not concerned with MPG, or top speeds. What is the best brand? ACME, Michigan, OJ? What is the preferred diameter and pitch? Any advise would be very helpful. This is my first boat, I'm totally stoked about it, but I'm very new at this too.

Depending on how bad it is, prop repair is a common practice and it saves a LOT of money.

As for prop recommendations, check the hub and find out what you have and simply buy the same, unless you want a different performance.

And by "checking the hub" you mean the prop that's on there now?

"Hub" is the center of the prop where the shaft passes through, and is held on by the nut. Pull the cotter pin and nut (toss the cotter pin and pick up a new Stainless Steel one). Under the nut will be stamped or machined a series of numbers like;

13.5 x 16 VR

The first number indicates prop diameter, second is the pitch, the letters typically designate the rotation. Your boat should be using a Right handed rotation prop, size is probably no longer the "stock" prop.
If you look on the gear for sale on this site, search "props" for sale, and one of them will show a picture of the hub.

Thanks for the clarification Miljack. I should have been more specific.

Also, at least the ACME's have another number on there that specifies the prop (1464, etc.) That's the number you would use to order another. And if you do change, don't be too quick to discount a three blade prop. There's great debate on which is better. My Gekko ran MUCH better (both hole shot and top end) with the stock 3 blade as opposed to the 4 blade I had temporarily for a time.

UPDATE! I had an OJ 13 1/2 Diameter 14 x 18. I've talked to ACME and looks the recommended prop is the ACME 1464 or ACME 1236. Bill at ACME sales recommends the 1464.

sounds about right. That's why I suggested repair. My first 'ding' couldn't be fixed but everything else could. Repairs generally run less than $200.

I run the 1236 on my 01 SAN with between 2500-3000 lbs. and it is awesome!!

Ok, officially got the numbers off my props. My SE came with a 381 on it, but coupled with the 275 hp engine it isn't enough to get my 290 lbs out of the water on slalom (though nobody else has a problem). Found a rebuilt 645 at Whitelake and it gives the extra umph to get me up...

Burk, this is why I said if you're happy, go with what you've got. If not, it's a good time to tune it.
