Crunchy Steering Wheel

Just this past weekend my 07 236 steering wheel became kind of crunchy is the only way to describe it. It only happens on take off and just for a few seconds. I think remember my 02 210 doing this but not as bad. Dealer is 5hrs away.... any ideas on what I can do myself before taking it to the dealer?

"Crunchy" may be the term keeping help away. Crunchy sounding or feeling? At the helm or at the rudder?
Maybe get under the dash and see if your helm is tight Our Mustang was a bit loose last summer, but I cannot use the term crunchy for it.

I would say ts a little of both crunchy sounding and feeling... kind of a shuddering feeling and sounds like someone crumpling up a empty baag of potato chips. I hear and feel it at the helm. Boat is only two years old so it hard to believe the steering cable is the problem.

My 2003 210 developed a slight vibration/chattering in the steering wheel at takeoff when heavily weighted. It turned out that it was due to the prop being slightly damaged. It was very difficult to see the prop damage, and I don't remember hitting anything in the water, but after replacing the stock prop with a 644 (the best available back then), the problem went away. Any chance that could also be your problem?
