2002 PCM Excalibur idle problem after rebuild...

I have a 2002 SAN with a 2002 PCM Excalibur. This boat has been run exclusively in salt water. I got over 2000 hours on the original engine. Not sure exactly how many as the digital hour meter doesnt work anymore. I just swapped that with the analog teleflex. I changed the oil on the original engine every 50 hours but other than that I was really hard on the engine. Lots of weight while wakeboarding and wakesurfing. I overheated the engine twice and changed the exhaust maninfolds only once. In the end that cost me the engine as I got water in two cylinders and the engine seized. I spent the last month replacing my engine with a rebuilt/remanufactured chevy 350 long block from a marine engine rebuilder in my area. I bought the long block from him but I pulled the old engine, swapped/cleaned/painted components (FCC, wiring harness, altenator, pumps, new manifolds, intake manifold, etc) and dropped the rebuilt block in myself. Last weekend I finally finished the job and ran the engine. The engine started but it will not idle. In fact below 1500 rpm the engine hunts a little and below 1300 rpm it just dies. The engine "sounds" good while running and I have no engine alarms or lights. Oil pressure and engine temperature are normal. Any ideas what might cause this problem. The boat has been out of service since last August. I have a feeling it may be a computer problem. I did pump out all the old gas and replace it with new gas. I have only run the engine on the trailer. I'm not willing to water test until I figure out this idle problem. Any input would be much appreciated. If I can't figure it out I have set up an appointment to take it to a mechanic next week.

sounds like the idle circuit is not doing what it is supposed to do? I am no FI guru but I would guess it's not a difficult fix once you talk to somebody that knows the system. Did you download the engine manual and go through the testing procedures?

Looks like there are no real "testing procedures" for this motor but knowing where the sensors are and what they do might help if you don't already know them.

I used both manuals during the entire project. The parts manual was really helpful especially when I needed to replace certain parts. I work at a power plant and several guys there work on and rebuild engines for fun. They have been a great source of info but no luck with the idle problem. I'm dropping the boat off with a mechanic tomorrow. I hope its a sensor problem and not the ECU. Thanks for your input!
