    Circuit Breaker/switches Question(s)

I've noticed on my 90 SN that when I depress some of the switches that it causes a major voltage drain...taking the voltage down to somewhere south of 8 volts. It only happens with some and not all. The culprits I can remember off the top of my head seem to be Navigation lights, bilge pump automatic, bilge pump manual, accessory #1, and I can't recall what else. The ones that I know work fine are the ignition, accessory #2, blower, and anchor lights.

Is the best remedy to replace the questionable switches/circuit breakers?

    TIA,

    Justin

Check your dashboard ground. If that isn't the issue, replace the switches.

I have the same problem on a couple breakers. I have new ones coming from Whitelake.

My 1997 Ski Nautique uses the same breakers/switches, I think.
A few of them were getting stiff to switch. I sprayed a little WD-40 into them, and it loosened them up.
My boat is not as old as yours, but it might have more hours on it. 2171.9

Mine switch fine, but I do have a big voltage drop on the Nav lights, and the heater. I am going to check everything with a meter prior to replacing but suspicious that I am on the right track.

I kind of have something similar. I notice a change in some of my gauges when I flip on the Nav lights. I was suspecting the daisy chain install of positive and ground, but it could be a switch. I'll check with my multimeter tonight. Every since I replaced my alternator last year, the dash voltage has read above 14 while running.

Interesting...I also noted that my voltage meter at the dash reads right around 12. I used my volt meter and checked it at the battery with the boat running and it showed 13.5. I haven't used it to check it at the voltage meter on the dash - maybe I'll do that.

I'm also having issues with my Tach...could that be related to a bad ground?

My volt gauge on the dash read 11.9 as does my perfect pass screen. I put a 100A alternator in a couple years ago and it had no effect. I plan to get this sorted out yet this summer. I have never had any repucussions from this, but still want the problem solved and gone.

My dash gauge reads 15v. Using the posts off of that gauge, my multimeter reads 12.5v.

I tested voltage at a few spots and it was all around 12.4-12.5, but when I turn on my NAV lights it drops to 11.5v. I do have the NDT light on top of the tower (it might draw more power than the standard light at the stern).

My tachometer doesn't really work well (it jumps and sticks). I thought it might be due to a bad ground or pos, but I read 12.5 there also. I checked the cyclinder setting and its at 8C, so maybe the gauge is shot.

100 amp Alternator upgrade, but no Volt changes at Dash gauges

Exactly same thing happened to me: just upgraded to a new 100amp Alternator, but Volt Gauge & Perfect Pass screen still under 12volts... How did you finally fixed your problem? Did you change any wiring to dash?

Last night I blew the fuse running off the battery trying to connect my anchor light. The entire boat lost power and when scrammbling around trying to find the issue, I pushed the bilge pump circuit breaker button next to the power switch underneath the steering column. The button seems to be stuck and cannot manually turn the bilge pumps on (Switch all the way down). Does anyone have any information on this bilge pump circuit breaker button? The bilge pumps worked perfectly before last night. Thanks

So I had a similar issue on my 2003 SANTE I blew bilge breaker had crazy voltage popped a tank empty pump circuit breaker. All fine and crappy right then it got fun I was working on servicing the oils for the session have the battery on to listen to some light music nothing loud then this click click sound from the under the dash starts happening then it stops only heard it maybe one or two time go back to work few mins later I realize the music is off and I had lost all power to the boat. try to reset nothing final realize the main 30 amp inline slow fuse blew (if u need a new one Lowes is the place to get it) so I look and look finally found this piece under the throttle area there is a auto reseting circuit breaker looks like this see below, but covered in rubber from the nautique factory. web search this for image Sea Dog Resettable Circuit Breaker (these are at auto zone)

so anyways found this thing click on and off because the factory in its wonderful wisdom decide to tap into a 12 gauge power run with this circuit breaker with two 1 inch long 16 gauge wire and its 40 amps ps on a 5 foot run do the math and it equals barely good enough maybe but years of corrosion but make it equal heat lots of it the wires insulation melted and bare wires melted together not cool so maybe look at those I have found three so far one near throttle messed up and one in port and starboard stern lockers the other two look ok but gauged down just like the other one so I Fixed it with proper gauge wire replaced that breaker just incase. Im not a electrical guy at all but burnt wires and small wires tap into larger wires is not right. I hope this helps good luck
