02 330EX in a 210, 450hrs
the story: towards the end of the day (4-5hr of wakesurfing) we were switching riders (engine is idling for 2-3 mins). As we start going forward, the engine stalls . I try to start it again,I hear the fuel pump cycling, battery is at 12-13A but it won't turn over.. after cranking it for a few seconds, it starts but dies right after, check engine light goes on. at that point I'm freaking out (middle of the river with 300ft cargo ship approaching). I finally get the **** thing to start again, push the neutral pin and hold the RPM at 2000rpm (battery is almost dead from cranking). The engine was making a hissing sound? heading towards the marina the boat started shaking and I finally got on plane. it had decent power but something felt strange...I idled back to the dock but it still felt like it was gonna stall on me.
what I did on the trailer: I emptied the fuel CC and there was alot of dirt in the gas. can this be the cause of the sudden engine malfunction?
is it possible that water got into the fuel vent? the boat was slammed and the vent was a few inches from the waterline.
I had the cap+rotor changed last year. I'm pretty sure they changed the spark plugs too.
what should I look for? can a clogged fuel filter be the cause?
thanks alot for your time
