I am looking at a 05' 196 with the 330 EX engine. The boat has a high amount of hours - 1000 or so. I know the gt-40 pretty well and that # of hours would not be an issue with that engine, but what about the Excaliber 330? Anyone with experience with it and high hours? What should I look for ? How is the longevity?

RE: Engine hours..
I believe the main problem with wear on marine engines is the fact that they sit for long periods of time between being started. This allows the oil to slowly run off the internal parts, and actually causes higher wear on the engine with low hours.
If the boat is in good condition, and has had regular service, 250 hours a year would not stop me from buying it.
If you drive a car, or a truck at 60 MPH, for a thousand hours. it will have 60,000 miles on it. Used, but definitely nowhere near used up.

RE: Engine hours..
JC, I bought a 03 196 three years ago with 1250 hr. boat was in ex. shape. Have almost 1400 hr. and no problems. Have a 97 Tige with 2100 hr. Ibought new with no problems so like Danielc said if taken care of these eng. should run for a long time, I would think that 4000 hr. before overhall. cared for is the answer.\"03\" ski 196 SE (for course use) current boat
\"97\" tige\' 2150 (for wakebording) current boat
\"72\" pontoon ( installing portable course) current boat
