I had a similar issue a few years ago. Instead of going straight down the dipstick hole to the bottom of the case, the tube got diverted off to another hole in the side. I kept pushing it further in, wondering why my pump wasnt drawing fluid. When I got a light and saw what had happened, it was too late- it was snagged and would not pull back out. In talking to a few tranny experts, they suggested I pull the trans and get it out rather than run it- so thats what I did.

No need to rebuild while youre in there, but do inspect everything. If it looks good, button it back up. If not, send it out for a rebuild- but pulling the trans is not a hard job at all.
