    Need help! Thanks...

I'm in the process of changing my tranny fluid in a 93 Sport. The plastic tube at the end of my pump dropped down into the hole out of the reach for needle nose pliers. I tried placing some Gorilla glue to a long flat head screw driver and let it sit for a while, but I can't get anything to stick to the smooth surface of the plastic tube down in there. I'm thinking a small piece of double sided 3M tape may work better. Does any one have any ideas on helping me out on this one?! Thanks, Lee

How about using some coat hanger wire and trying to "spear" the tube? You can put a slight bend in the wire to create some interference once you engage the tube.

yeah, maybe shave it down to a fine point and make a small hook out of it. Either that or glue a fishing hook to the end of something and use that. Thanks for getting the gears turning in my head. Wish me luck

So after digging around in that hole for half and hour, I've manage to push that plastic tube just out of sight/reach into the transmission. If I leave it in there will it just melt and get mixed up with the fluid or do I need to unbolt the transmission from the engine? I'm not sure what options I have at this point.

I would not leave it in there, that is just asking for trouble. Maybe you can get another tube to go on your pump, drop it in and try to get some suction on the other tube to either bring it back into view or get it out completely. Just a thought.

I'll give that a try... if it doesn't work I've come to the conclusion I need to take it apart to get it out. While it's apart I may as well rebuild it too. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but have never rebuilt a boat tranny before. Does anyone know where I can find specific information on how to rebuild this thing as well as what parts I'll need? It's a PCM 40 1.23:1, 1993 Sport.

            Thanks, Lee

Try sucking on it with a shop vac through a small tube. Like my doc cleans my ears out.

I would use a forceps/ medical clamp. If you can get it back to where you can see it. Works as good as a needle nose, but can generally get into a tighter space than a pliers. Tearing the whole thing apart just as an exercise seems like a waste of time and money. especially in the middle of the season, maybe if it was end of season/winter it might be a fun project. good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Fly100, Very nice of you to offer, but I can no longer see it to even get a tool on it. The shop vac trick didn't work either. I'm thinking of jacking up the right side of the boat and hopefully tilting it to the left so it may slide that way. If I'm able to get an eye on it, I may take you up on your offer for one of these tools.

ltk - It is about a 1 hour job (ok three with Bud helping) to get the tranny out. Then you can roll it on it's side & maybe get the tube to come out. Worth a try.

Call me crazy but before I went to the trouble of pulling the trans I would just fill it with fluid and run it with the tube in there. Might get chewed up, might cause troubles, might clog up the trans, but it might not.
