One speedo failed

On my 196 one of the speedo's has just failed. It does registor but I can get it to match the other one.Closest I can get it to is within 10mph of the working one.Ive checked the tubing at the rear of the dash but nothing is obvious.

Is there anything else I can check or do I require a new speedo.

RE: One speedo failed

You might have already tried this but I'll mention i t just in case. Go in reverse for about 10 seconds and then see what it does. When one of mine fails that usually clears it. Also are your gauges adjustable at the dash? Mine are and I finally figured out that my son had turned the knob on one of them causing them to be 7-10 MPH different. I reset it and that was all that was wrong.

Just had my '04 SAN speedo unclogged by my service guy. He said he blew compressed air out of the tube & pickup. I'm not sure how much pressure is needed.

very low pressure. guessing 5-10 psi. You want to blow from the back of the speedo.

If you have the Airguide speedometer, disconnect the hose from the pitot (pickup) and blow backwards. I use an inflation needle for a football, or basketball, it will go inside the top of the pitot.
If that does not help, leave the tube disconnected, and remove the front end of the hose from the back of the Speedometer, and blow backwards through the hose. Do not exceed 25 PSI.
There is also a metal tube that has a hose connection on each end. It is possible that the hose has become disconnected. On my 1997 Ski Nautique the metal tube is behind the gas tank.
On boats with a gateway box, and digital speedometers, and pitot tubes, disconnect the hose from the gateway box, and blow backwards.
