    Do it on the trailer, and double check on the water. Despite being a bit of a hassle, this is time well spent.

      Maybe this is a mute point, but my 1987 no name (Dixie Super Skier 299) had the added prop shaft coupler (great boat by the way!!!). Not a "quality" cc invention. Also, while under extreme power, most of us would be moving forward...... meaning the shaft is being forced up and into the boat. I believe the collar is there to prevent the shaft from finding the fishies at the bottom of the lake if someone wraps it into reverse and causes the shaft to pull away from the press fit coupler. I had a previous boat where that did loosen up so that when I pulled the sharft out, it was actually just slightly tighter than I could remove with my hands. Remember those set screws are there to help as well.
