Help w/ Pump & FCC for 97 SN

I'm new to the site and need some help. I have a 1997 Ski Nautique 196 (Pro Boss GT 40 motor) and it was acting up. It was kinda like the whole fuel starvation thing. Ran great for an hour or so then decided to die out after sitting a while and wouldn't start again. Took it to a place that I didn't want to but I did anyways. They told me I needed a full tune up. So I had them do that and change the fuel filter and the impeller. However, still doing the same thing again. So ok that's fine took the shaft on that one. I guess I'll move on. So now I have a low pressure fuel pump in my hands that I'm going to try and change myself. I'm not much of a mechanic but not a complete moron (I hope). So looking for a little help or some tips on changing the pump. It doesn't look that bad, but who knows. I guess I have to cut the wires and get some heat shrink butt connectors? What do I plug the gas lines with while I change the pump? and so on

I also think I might need to change the hose inside the FCC (after doing a search and reading a post). How do I go about removing the FCC to get to the hose? Do I have to drain the fuel? How do I start?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
If I'm asking a question that has been posted and answered already, then I apologize right now to everyone!
    Thank you!

RE: Help w/ Pump & FCC for 97 SN

    I will start with this:
    http://planetnautique.com/index.php?...=fuel+pressure
Your low pressure pump should have 5 to 6 PSI, and good flow, about a quart in 15 seconds.
The fuel line from the gas tank to the low pressure pump has an anti-siphon valve, and should only lose a little bit of gas when you disconnect it from the low pressure pump. Put a rag in the bilge to catch any gas that does come out.
You can also download the GT-40 service manual from this site, in the downloads section.

I would check the fuel pressure before replacing the hose inside the FCC. Some hoses did go bad, some did not. My 1997 Ski Nautique, with 1990 hours still has the original hose, but some have gone bad. Watch also for fuel leak at the top of the FCC, through the fitting that has the wires for the high pressure pump, that is inside the FCC.

      DanielC -
      Thanks for for the help/tips!
I switched the pump on Saturday and ran it yesterday.
So far so good. Except now my radio would play cds
Any ideas on why my radio will not play cds - it says "ERR-01' (or something similar)
      and then ejects the cd?
      I appreciate it!

A common cause of the CD player not working is a dirty lens on the laser inside the CD player. Take the head unit out, and a good automotive audio shop probably can clean the laser lens for you.

I had these same exact symptoms on my 94, did a whole slew of sensor tests. Replaced the fuel pump, and Im at about 95%, still have some hesitations, but very infrequently, and we havent skiied yet.

If you are having any driveability problems with a GT-40, you have to check the fuel pressure, while the problem is occurring.
The engines computer does not monitor fuel pressure, or the fuel/air ratio like a car. The computer just assumes the fuel pressure is correct.
