    Hello! 94 Nautique help needed

Hey all, first time poster here. Need some help with our 94 Nautique bow rider, not sure of the model, but Ill post when i get it. Its got a Ford 351 motor.

So. here's the problem. Boat has trouble starting without lots of gas (handle down), especially on a restart. When idling, it revs and drops almost regularly, and then finally dies. When up to speed, around 2500rpm revs get erratic, gunning up and down, and sometimes just dropping, also on turns.

    Situation:
New battery, coil, belts, fuel filter
1 yr old: plugs, dist cap, rotor.
May be the original plug wires

    What Ive done:
Ran full tank of gas with STP fuel treatment
Running 87 octane (not from a wet dock)
Manual says to run 89 -- IS this critical???
Cleaned the carb inside and out
    Checked plugs
Had a different fuel delivery problem in May until I cleaned out the screen in the carb inlet fitting. Checked that again this morning, and its clean.

Any help would be appreciated. Cant ski

    Thanks!
    Chris

You have a Sport Nautique. How many hours on it?

Check the FCC. I have never had a problem with one of mine but guys do change them.

Another good fix is a carb rebuild. You should run 89 like PCM recommends.

I think I used the wrong term here. I am referring to the fuel/water separator. I believe the term FCC, fuel control cell is post 94 and on EFI engines. The water separator is the big canister that should be on the port side of your engine.

Ok, I think I replaced that. If it sits a the front lower port side of the engine, I did. Thought it was a fuel filter.

So, if this is a fuel delivery issue, which I think it is, the only thing I can think of is fuel pickup in the tank? or fuel pump?

          Thanks again

There is an anti-siphon valve at the tank, might be a good idea to check that to see if it's clogged up also.

I will, thanks Quinner. I found this on another forum with symptoms *close to mine:
              ----------
ok, so we talked to skidim.com today and they gave us three possible scenarios to try 1) disconnect the temp sensor on the intake and start see is problem goes away. 2) disconnect the oil pressure sending unit( there are two of them one goes to the gauge--ours was a blue wire--- and the other goes to the ignition module--ours was a green wire), and start boat to see if problem goes away, and 3) disconnect the knock sensor which is at the back of the left bank cylinder head and give the yellow/tan wire a constant 12v feed and start boat. If the problem goes away after one of these tests you have a bad sensor all of which will throw it into "Limp Mode". Ours however did not fair too well so we are ordering the skidim.com retro ignition kit tomorrow and should have it next week and will report when it is done...
              ----------
..so I have a few things to try!
