    90 Sport Overheating

Took the boat out saturday and had a very unsuccessful day. Launched the boat got just out side the wave breakers and brought it up to speed and it was overheating up tp 210 degrees, Cut power and let ti sit and was able to get it back on the trailer.

Have not had the tools or equipment to really troubleshoot too much but tomorrow I plan to after work.

Checked the raw water strainer and it had clean water and a good seal and so did all the water hoses.

Will be checking the Impeller first and then the water pump, Any ideas or thoughts would be a great help.

Was it really hot? My 90's temp is all over the place. I have a contact thermometer to confirm the temp. My gauge is going bad. Can you touch the risers? Are all the hose clamps tight? Air leaks cause cooling issues. Is the thermostat working. It should open up at 140. Are the risers rusted? You have the right idea by checking the impeller. I have gotten two years out of them put change every season to avoid issues.

Sounds like an impeller to me. When mine went out, I didn't know it until the temp gauge was pegged. If it is the impeller, make sure you get all of the shredded pieces out or it will continue to overheat.

I would also check the impeller. It will be really easy to tell I found peices of my impeller in the manifold with out the motor overheating so it is probably in peices. Can the shredded peices make it all the way through the system because I never found all the peices to mine?

Ya I will check that, How do you get to the pieces that get in deep.

All of mine actually fell back down into the hose between the raw water pump and the tranny cooler. I pulled all the hoses between the RWP and the exhaust risers before I finally thought to check the other direction. It's just a process of elimination really.

Good idea, Ripped out the impeller and its definitely the issue, Got a new one on the way, and should be out on the water in no time.

Some of the vanes are missing so, I'm going to do some hunting around tomorrow and see if I can find all the missing pieces.

It is a sherwood pump, does $45 seem reasonable for an impeller??

$45 seems right on the money I would buy 2 so you have a spare. It could have had you back on the water the same day. I always carry a tool kit with pliers screwdriver duct tape a spare hose clamp a spare impeller and some epoxy putty.
