Vinyl repair

I have some minor damages to my vinyl upholstery. Normally you would take it to a vinyl repair guy. However, in my country there aren't many companies who do vinyl repairs or they ask way too much money for the repair.
So my question is: has anyone tried a diy vinyl repair kit to make repairs? Can anyone recommend a particular product?

I tried, got impatient and turned up the iron. In addition to the tear, I burned the vinyl, found a vinyl guy.
