    Cleaning Mildew

What works the best for getting off Mildew and where do yo get it?

I saw a few posts that people were raving about the 3m cleaner and the 303 spray. Are these good on heavy Mildew or not.

These two don't work at all IMO..."maybe" with a stiff brush.

I've used X14 on everything but my boat stuff. It works the best of anything I've used....but I'm not sure it is safe for the boat stuff.

The ranting and raving is about the damage done to the protective coating on the material.

I saw a mildew remover at West Marine that was organic and safe for everything (it said). Don't know if it works.

Gotta disagree with you about the Magic Eraser. For a SPOT cleaner, they are unbeatable and do no damage to the vinyl in my boat. Used them for three years now and they've removed stains that were there for years. FWIW though, I would not use them on mildew; there are better products specially for mildew. CC's vinyl has been top of the heap - sure hope it is not the cheap stuff that the M brands use now.

Use mildew and mold remover made by starbrite. You casn get it bass pro shops or through overtons it works great. Must follow with a protectant like 303 or your mildew will come right back. I made the mistake of cleanin my old boat real well and not reapplying protectant and came back a week later to black mildew everywhere. I used the star brite and rinsed thoroughly then applied protectant and it stayed away.

Keeping things dry, and exposure to bright sunlight goes a long way to preventing mildew on upholstery.
