new to me boat, new to me problems.

I just bought a 2003 SANTE and seem to have problems already so I will see if these are easy.

First off, the guages didnt work when I got to the lake for the demo. After them saying they wiggled wires, they came back and worked for the whole test drive through many start/stop cycles. Now I have it at home and I wanted to check the hours and functions in the garage and I hit start 2 times for the 2 lights to come on and the ballast guages move and PP comes on but nothing else does. I thought I could cycle the guages with the engine not running. What do I do

While in the dealership last winter, the engine turned over by itself. They replaced the keypad in that time and seemed to be fine but now the keypad seems to not require a code to start. I can just hit start and stop and it does what I would need a code to do.

I sure there will be more but help me out with these 2 major things right now and I will go from there

If below is not clear, search my posts for *keypad* or master embedded code.

READ YOUR MANUAL ON PROGRAMMING USER CODES.

When there is no Primary User Code programmed, no code is needed to start the boat.

From the factory, the keypad has no Master Embedded Code. If one has not been programmed, the first time you program a Primary User Code, it will burn in as the Master Embedded Code. Then you can proceed on with programming a Primary User Code.

If they burned in a Master Embedded Code, you will need to know it to program your User Codes and enable the security functions.

My understanding is that there is always a master or factory embedded code, that cannot be changed. If no user code is ever set, no code is needed to start the boat. If a user code is set, the user code will start the boat, and the master code will also start the boat.
I also believe with the factory code, you can delete the user code, but I could be wrong about that.
The key on my 1997 Ski Nautique has worked without problems since November of 1996, and 2205 hours.

Pretty sure Daniel is correct. You can call your dealer or the factory to get the Master Code if necessary. Those are stored in a database that dealers can access.

On the new style, the code is in the keypad. I know this because I put one in and had to program it.

The previous styles had the code in the Gateway.

What I don't know is what year they changed.

For either model, he should just try to program the Master/Primary code without first entering the master code....follow me? If it works, he just burned in a new master code. If it doesn't the master code is in there (Gateway or keypad...doesn't matter) and he'll have to be told the master code to start programming user codes.

Until winter, he might should just enjoy the no code feature and not mess with it.

That will take care of the keypad, but my guages are what really worry me right now. I dont want to take the boat out until they guages work, and with me working out of state and coming home maybe every other weekend, my time in the new boat and witht he wife are limited before winter here in MN. If anyone can shed some light on the subject so I can get it figured out and take it out on labor day morning, I would REALLY REALLY appreciate it. I have searched and checked the kill switch and movinbg around the wiring to no avail. I hope it isnt the brain box or something expensive. But anybody have any tests to narrow it down for me? I am not one to just give in and take it to the dealer, but I might just so I can use it some this year.

The main toggle switch has been problematic. But I don't see how that would cause the guages to not come on but the PP is powered.

You are correct that the kill switch has to be closed to get power to the guages and PP.

Is there a circuit breaker for the guages?

I've not been under the dash enough to know the wiring. I'd assume there is a relay that powers that biz. Get your voltmeter out and carefully start looking around. Knock on wood...but I would think this one would be a simple fix. Especially if you saw them working with your own eyes.

Here is a thread that I found that seems to be exactly what I have happening. I checked what it said and my side checks out. Along with what you said, there is no circuit breaker under the dash for the guages or one that is tripped period. I will be checking the connections, but I feel that will be to no avail because I tried that but will try again. I have nothing to loose at this point. Whatever ideas you have, throw at me. I would love to be on the water with my new boat before I go to work for 2 weeks and can only come home to try to fix the boat again.

I would really hate to have 2 good months of season left and not be able to use my new to me boat until next year

If the 03' is like my 05' you may want to check the connections at the Gateway box, which is in the trunk of my 206. Had mine in for service once and the dealer did not plug them all back in, as a result some of my gauges did not work.

RE: Re: RE: Re: new to me boat, new to me problems.

The gauges on an LE or TE feed serially and are powered via a canbus interface to the ECM via the GAteway box. So from the ECM to the Gateway is a single cable. From the Gateway to the Leftmost Tach or Speedo is a single cable. Each of the gauges has a "can in" and a "can out" port. So you have the can output from the gateway that goes to the tach usually, then there is a short 10" jumper cable that goes from can out on the tach to can in on the 1st speedo. And then from can out there to can in on the 2nd speedo. and then to the oil pressure gauge, fuel pressure gauge, etc. If the can cable from the gateway isn't making good connection, none of the gauges will work. The PP is powered seperately.

Where is this gateway box on my boat and where would these connections be that I can check into. I would be tickled pink if I could get my boat on the water tomorrow morning before I head out of town.

I believe your gateway box is mounted on the transom, (back of the boat) as high as possible. Look behind your engine up close to where the hinge for the cover is.

That may explain why the black cover inside the trunk of my 2006 206 is about 50 times bigger than necessary to cover the bildge pump wire and the lifting ring threaded rod. Is that where they put the gateway box?

You may have a bad Gateway box. You might try moving the can in cable to the first gauge in the series over to the next one. It's possible you have a bad gauge as the first in line.
