changing paddle wheel

Hey guys i need to change a damaged paddle wheel on a friends boat. Never done this before. what is the best way to get the rod or axle out of the old wheel. Also how does the new one stay in when I replace it. does it just click into place or is there something else I need to know

It is very easy - I actually replaced mine last weekend. Just use the new axle that comes with the paddle wheel kit and a small mallet/hammer to pop the old one out, you may not even need the hammer to tap on the old axle - mine pushed right out. Use the same technique to put it in. Whole job take about 10 minutes - I was very suprised how easy it was to replace.

So my paddle fell out. I ordered a new one today from nautique parts.

Found this old topic. I'm not much of a handy man.

Any other advice anyone wants to add to this topic for me?

You have to pull the transducer out from the inside of the boat. Once out you will see how to get the axle out.

Unscrew these 2 screws?

If I remember correctly unscrew the outer round plastic part of the transducer. The part on your photo that says hand on it. Can't see the rest of what it says but think it says hand tight maybe? Unscrew that and it should allow you to pull it straight up by hand.

Ok so that step worked, now I have this that I can move around 8". Does this part screw apart where the gasket is?

Wow, I'm an idiot .

I just used a mail to slide the axel out through the little holes.

Was freaking about the hammer references from above.

This 10 minute job only took me 2 hours!

Hey fellas, new to the forum but I’ve found a wealth of info prior to signing up. Regarding the above thread, I about to order new Faria gauges for my 2002 SANTE. It has already had them replaced at least once. I have a perfect pass system and plan to go with a GPS Speedo. I would also like to get a new depth gauge and transducer. Curious if I could remove the paddle wheel referenced in this thread and place the depth transducer in its place?

bdheideman I would not recommend doing that. If you do that, you'll lose your water temperature display in PerfectPass.

Instead, get an in-hull depth finder like this one. That way you don't have to drill any holes. We install these all the time and they work great.
