I purchased a 1977 Ski Nautique with a 351cu Ford engine. The prop is 13 x 13. Burning premium gas. It appears that the stock carburetor has been removed and an Edlebrock carburetor installed in it's place. At about 25 miles per hour and depending on the load the boat is pulling, the engine starts to flutter and loose power. We are speculating that perhaps the Edlebrock carb is mismatched for the engine. With only myself in the boat there are times I can run it up to 4000 or a little more rpms and about 35+mph without the engine fluttering. Does anyone have some suggestions as to what might be causing this?

RE: Engine Flutters
Which carb is it? That should be a mid 40's MPH boat at low to mid 4k rpm range. I would hit it with a timing lght and see what you come up with.
You do not need to run 91-93 octane in that boat. 89 is fine. Is it the original motor ? RH marine. Those are awesome boats, I want a late 70's Nautique someday....
