    FlushPro Question/Concern

    I am new to all this but I added a flushpro to make running my boat in the driveway more convienient.

    Here's my question - When I directly hook the hose to the flushpro it runs great just like it should. The problem comes up when I try to run a hose from the flushpro to a bucket being filled by a hose the system does not suck in any water. (Any yes I taped over my intake on the bottom of the hull. ) I need this to work to get antifreeze into my block.

    Any ideas for getting this to work other than s-canning the flushpro??

      Throw the flushpro in the garbage. If it fails while on the water you will overheat your engine. If you have a bad impeller the flushpro will not tell you that while running in the driveway. Anything you put in between the hull pickup and raw water pump is a liability, if it leaks air you can overheat.

      That being said:

      I have 5' of 1" hose for winterizing. Just pop the hose off the bottom of the raw water pump and put your other hose on it, and then in the bucket that is filled with water. If it won't suck out of the bucket you have a problem.

      You probably smoked your impeller already...so you should get a new one anyway. If you did mess up your impeller then you won't suck up any antifreeze. So now drain your 5 drains and then take the hose off of the top of your raw water pump and pour your antifreeze in there. Make sure your tranny cooler and strainer are drained also.

        You either have a bad impeller, or a bunch of air leaks. My guess is the former. Tim is right, you should replace the impeller. Then go through your entire cooling system with a 5/16 nut driver to check all your hoses. As far as winterizing, you can do it either way, suck in with impeller like you were trying to do, or pour it in as Tim suggests. Both ways work fine.

        DRAIN first !!!

          I had a similar problem, although mine would slowly take the antifreeze out of the bucket, so it eventually worked. I thought my problem was that my tape seal on boat's intake wasn't perfect... Prior to installing the flushpro, I would pull the intake hose and put it in a bucket. But it was a hassle to get to and disconnect the intake hose and reinstall it... Not sure what I will do next year when it is time to winterize.

            I remove the hose that is exiting the strainer. Clamp a short extension to that and put it in the bucket. On a direct drive, you could just as easily use the pour in method.

              FlushPro

              Guy - all good advice, I will give it a go again tonight and report out. My impeller looked good as of this weekend and the boat ran well, but I will swap it out anyways just to be sure.

              I had already gone through my system religiously with a 5/16 nut wrench so I think its the good ol' impeller. Wish me luck! ( I have a feeling I will be using the pour-in method...)

                If everything is intact, the suction method will work perfectly. Best to find the problem now, or deal with it in the Spring.

                  OK - I am on the train now. Flushpro's are a waste of time and $$$ for making winterizing easy. As soon as I took mine off I had great suction in my bucket and got my boat winterized in about 30-minutes. They made the check valve spring too strong on the new ones.

                  Maybe they are still great for saltwater, etc so if anyone wants a great deal on a FlushPro PM me. (Very lightly used)

                  Back to the other suction mystery questions, I replaced my impeller last night as well. It still looked good with very little wear and no missing fins. I am going to save it for a spare and I'll post a few pics soon. I also made a $10 flushing adapter that works great. ( a 6" - 3/4" Sch 80 PVC pipe nipple &amp; a MPT to Hose Thread swivel adapter &amp; 6' length of garden hose) Just drop the hose in a bucket and keep the bucket full with a hose from the house.

                    Good job.

                    I keep a spare impeller in my boat at all times along with a 1/2 and 7/16 combo wrench so it can be replaced.

                        I think you are missing a step with your proflush. I have not used mine to draw liquid from a bucket but the instructions say that before doing this you need to insert a plastic piece (supplied with the proflush) into the connection for the hose- before attaching the hose.

                        I'm not near my proflush or instructions so this is from memory.

                            jeclarke - I think you are right, but I'm over it. It takes 60-seconds to unhook my raw water intake hose and and insert my $10 home-made version.

                            I will be sure to find the $0.02 plastic piece and give it to the next owner of my FlushPro...
