The alternator is certainly one of those parts that you would want to get as a marine part (not automotive). The dealership is probably the best idea, but there are other places where the part can be found. I know Discount Inboard Marine carries them, and there is also a post a little further down where a site member was selling high-output alternators. You might check those two places if you're trying to avoid the dealer.
