    Carpet Cleaning

My carpet is clean, but just not as vibrant as it might have been new. Any wonder products or other techniques that might bring back some luster and help me maintain my carpet and interior?

    RE: Carpet Cleaning

I'll await other responses in anxst too, but I was going to try (based on feedback from here) using laundry soap & fabric softener with a scrub brush. The flooring I could remove would be easy to hose down and scrub, but for the other pieces, I was going to do same followed by a wet/dry shop vac to suck up excess water.

A product called TuffStuff really works to get stains out. I also bought 303 Carpet Cleaner but have not tried it yet. Other 303 products have worked really well for me.

Remove everything from the boat you can. Get the carpet wet, and then I use a pressure washer, and Simple Green. The first time over the carpet, not much will happen, but dirt will start coming out of the carpet, after you go over an area a few times. Try to spray the dirty water into the bilge. If you let the dirty water sit on one area of the carpet, the dirt will just settle back into the carpet. When done, go back over the carpet with fabric softener, and rinse again.
Lay towels down on the carpet to soak up the water. The towels will work better if they are not cleaned with fabric softener.
Use a fan to finish drying the carpet

It seems like everyone has there own little method to cleaning their boat carpet. We at Corinthian Marine Carpet (the manufacturer for CC), recommend using any commercially available carpet cleaner the carpet becomes solied, then rinse thoroughly until the water runs completely clear. Finally, let the carpet completely dry FACE OUT in the sun, if you don't do this it's gonna get stinky real quick!

This is basically what I do, only I use Tide (no bleach) instead of simple green. I also use a shop vac before towels and a fan. Has worked well.

99 Sport - This weekend we rented a carpet cleaner (Steam) from the nearby grocery store (Food Lion) - $26 for 24 hours. After doing the carpets in the house, I used it on the Nautique. First I used Resolve Carpet Spot Remover on any darker spots. Then used the upholstery attachment on the Steam cleaner and did the carpets in the boat twice. Many years ago, we rented a carpet clearner, but these new ones are much better than I remember. The carpet looks great. After it completely drys, will coat it with Scotch Guard.
