    Perfect Pass Switch

OK. I am getting more and more serious about some short line skiing. This summer I worked my way up to 32' and 35' Off. I have a 2003 196 LE with perfect pass 6.4. My question is, would the purchase of a switch (inline rope switch) do me any good? And if so, where does that switch wire into the boat? Where do the wires run? Would I be better off getting star gazer? Oh yeah, I run in a river with slight current.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    RE: Perfect Pass Switch

I'm not sure that PP sells the switch any longer. If you can find one, great. Do you ski tournaments? If you do, using the switch with the kx set to - and px set to +15 or 20 will do a decent job of simulating the pull of Zero Off. You might need to upgrade to 6.5ng sw to use the switch, though. The switch just plugs into the side of the master module. Don't forget that you'll need to order new ropes for use with the switch.

Also, can you use the switch w/o the timer?

To use the timer, the course needs magnets. If your course has magnets only on one side, you have to either 1) have two timers 2) ski one direction or 3) move the timer back and forth each pass.

I think Max at skiertoskier.com still has the swicth for $150. AFAIK, magnets not needed.

Pretty sure the switch has no effect on the RPMs unless you are in the course aka timing has been started via magnet or hand timer.

Does upgrading to star gazer eliminate the need for the switch?

Yes, it does. I'm not a fan of stargazer, though. One almost every boat with it, you really have to baby it as you acquire speed. too much throttle and the boat runs away at the gates. Total pain in the butt if you ask me.

Im familar with this happening with throttle by cable. Does this still happen with TBW boats and stargazer?

No, the runaway problem isn't really there on the DBW boats.

so star gazer on a throttle cable boat is going to be troublesome?

if you run on a short set up lake you need not to over-throttle past the speed you need or the system surges trying to find the speed you need.

Even on a long setup. Our lake is 2500ft long and if you accelerate up past the rpm where the SG acquires control you might go through the gates at 40mph. Two boats with SG do it and another doesn't. Now that we have two ZO boats the others don't get used much so it's not that big of a deal. But we've gotten pretty good and catching it, feathering the throttle off to deacquire control, and then run it back up so it takes over again. Pain in the butt, if you ask me.

Well, I want to take our 2003 196 LE with perfect pass 6.4 to a more current level. Since Zero Off is NOT an option for my boat (since I and not drive by wire, here are my options as I see it:

Purchase a switch and just add that to my current set up
Purchase the Star Gazer Upgrade (requiring me to buy the multi-line display)

Wondering, will the switch work with the single line display and 6.4 or will I have to upgrade to 6.5 and a multi-line display.

What is going to get me the closest to Zero Off???

Agreeded, BUT always nice to have some other input past the company selling the product. Each car salesman seems to have the exact car for my needs and each one is just the best ever....... I like to get the "other" story as well. Anyone have more imput?
