    2000 Air Nautique/Super Sport V drive Restore

    Hey all-
I am getting ready to restore this '00 Super Air Nautique V drive. I have the owners manual and I am getting ready to replace and rebuild everything. Does anyone have any info on this years boat or has anyone replaced existing equipment on this boat? It has digital gauges that need to be replaced. And the list goes on. I am not exactly sure what type of motor it has in as well, I know the motor is fuel injected. I look forward to a fun packed winter, restoring this beast. Also, where is a good place to get a cover and ALL the parts??

What in the world happened to a 9 year old boat that it would need to be restored? Did it get sunk?
I am in the process of finishing one 1968 boat, and starting another that is a 1968.

It would be helpful if you could give us a summary of what you need to replace/fix, from there we can try and provide some insight... For the digital gauges - just run a search for "teleflex gauge" and you will find a whole bunch of useful threads on this topic. As to wakeslayer's question, do you really need to rebuild the engine, transmission, v-drive, etc or are you just "re-conditioning" boat to try and restore it to mint condition?

If you take a few pics of the engine compartment we can probably tell you what engine you have...

Sounds like fun. Speaking from experience, I can say the only advice that I can give you is to be really organized with the hardware and screws. When I did it on my '03, I only separated the screws in three different bins (bow, main cabin, rear). it was a pain in the ars to remember where all the screws went. Do yourself a favor and get a bunch of tackle boxes that have a bunch of individual compartments. Label the compartments (A1, B1, etc) and then make a hand hand sketch of the boat and then label the sketch with the corresponding bin number.

Get you a good electric hand screwdriver. I have one of those Milwaukee ones and pretty much wore it out over the course of a few months. I think I used that with a phillips head bit and a 3/8" (i think) open ended wrench for 90% of the hardware.

Should be a fun filled winter and a pretty good undertaking. You will come across many things that you can do better than CC (mainly wiring). It will also give you a chance to clean really well. I didn't go so far as to pull the motor and drivetrain for a rebuild of that, but I pretty much got to where all that was left was the engine.

If you want some motivation as to what your going to get into, check out my original thread....

And the subsequent unfinished part deux. FML!!!! I hate work and school!

Oh yeah....post pics immediately. As bchesley pointed out we are definitely boataphobes. Or maybe boataphiles is a better label.

Ok here we go with the Pictures... It took me a minute to be able to post. I am certain that I will have to replace the motor. I believe it is a PCM 351. I also have to replace the upholstrey, especially the sundeck. THANK YOU ALL for the feedback, I have soooo much to do, I am not even sure where to begin?!?!?

The engine is outside the engine compartment. I is just laying in the center of of the boat. It's rusted and is a mess. What motor can I replace it with? A 5.7 liter 330hp motor would be perfect, however I'm not sure if it is going to fit in the same motor mounts etc..

What happened, though? I asked earlier if it was sunk. Are all of your electronics going to be shot? ECM, etc. Trans?
I hope you own this thing right. You gotta lotta work ahead just in the engine.

Where are you located? Here is a motor for sale, but it is in San Francisco.

The mounts are going to be the least of your worries, I think.

Hey topher. did you pick that up at a Manheim auction? I seem to remember seeing one exactly like that a few months back with the block sitting in the middle of the boat. I instantly thought about that being a perfect project boat. Unfortunately those like that are a little more work that what we try to pick up at the auction to fix and resale.

If you got it at the auction, do you mind me asking how much you picked it up for? I know that I saw it run multiple times through manheims.

Wow, you really meant "rebuild", and I must admit I can't tell which engine it is from those pictures, but if its the 351 that will be the Ford GT40 5.8L EFI engine - or at least it was at one point One other subtlety I see is that your boat was originally a Nautique Super Sport, to which someone added a tower, air graphics, and potentially ballast tanks? - if the ballast is there you have all 3 components that make it a Super Air Nautique.

Everything in her is factory tower and ballast. Now that I was looking under the stearing column it looks like she has a heater as well. (huge score due to I live up North). I am not sure why it has the super sport decal?

What is the best place to purchase a new cover that will fit with the tower?

As I mentioned, the boat was originally a super sport and whomever bought had the dealer add the factory tower and ballast at some point after taking delivery. The only diff between the NSS and SAN are the ballast and tower options and different graphics - in your case the only thing you are missing is the SAN Air graphic that goes where your "Super Sport" label is on the sides above the N stripe.

No worries though, what you have is in effect a SAN.
