2004 SAN temperature guages (analog, digital) not working.

I have a 2004 Super Air Nautique and the temperature gauges on the dash seem to be stuck at the low end and do not rise as the engine warms up. I've replaced the temperature sending unit and checked for loose wires under the dash...but can't seem to pinpoint the problem. The faria digital gauge does show an initial reading of 70 degrees and rises to about 88 degrees (after 1 hour!)...so I think it is getting some sort of information.

I'm hoping to receive advise on what to try next? What am I missing?

Could this be related to the relay box (?) on the transom, which recently got wet when our speedo tube sprung a leak and shot water in the engine box (specifically on the transom)?

Sending units need to match the gauge's resistance. They are not all the same. Check your ground on the sender too. You cannot use teflon tape on them, just like one thread of pipe dope or so. I assume you are sure about this not being the water temp as in lake water. Gotta ask. You can take a laser temp gun and verify pinpoint engine temps. They are a great tool to have, and are only like $50 for a good one. Your operating temp should pretty much hang at 160*.

Thanks for the quick response WakeSlayer. (1) How can I discover the whether the sending unit matches the gauge's resistance? I got the sending unit from SkiDim. (2) Though I did use teflon tape on the new sending unit, I did check my ground with an ohmmetter by touching the brass bolt part of the sending unit with the engine block--they were connected fine. (3) Yes, we're talking about the engine temp. (4) My operating temp was about 160 before this problem started...now the needle on the analog gauge is pinned to the left (below 100 degrees).

At this point, I don't think the sending unit is the problem. What else can I try?

Update: Got the dealers help - replaced temp gauge on dash and temp gauge

After my own futile attempts to fix this problem, I finally broke down and took it to a local marina. They replaced the temp gauge (which apparently was stuck open) and the temp gauge in the dashboard. Now everything seems to be working. I hated to spend the money...but couldn't resolve this one on my own.

Just to clarify what do you mean when you say the temp gauge was stuck open are you talking about the sending unit? I have a similar issue and I'm trying to find out if the engine has 2 temp sensors. 1 for the gauge and 1 for the ecm. If you could elaborate it would be much appreciated.
