    mildew/ mold

my boat is currently having to be out in the weather for a couple of months. (im working on gettin it in storage). as we know we are in the rainy season. what can i do to help keep the moisture out? i have a nice sunbrella cover but still some gets in plus condensation. i put some absorbants in there from walmart but they dont last anytime and could get very expensive.

can anyone tell me a cheap, effective, mass absorbing substance?

go back into the RV section of wally world and get the bucket version of damprid and then just empty the bucket as needed.

I can't take credit for this idea, but here in the pacific northwest we buy a 5 gallon paint bucket with a lid from Home Depot and then a paint strainer that will fit inside. You place the stainer over the bucket so it sticks half way down and then cut out a large circle in the lid so you still can snap the lid on keeping the strainer in place. You fill the strainer with the dry air pellets you can buy at the local hardware store. With the large 5 gallon bucket you can go a long time without emptying your buckets. We use any where from 2 to 3 buckets a boat.

I believe the active ingredient in Damp-Rid is calcium chloride. Someone mentioned you can get that in bulk at a pool chemical supply store. A 5 gallon bucket, strainer,& several pounds of calcium choride would suck up a lot of humidity!

If your not using it for those months, pull a large tarp over your tower and boat. No rain will get to it.

JB - I have always just bought the damp rid canisters. They work pretty good. I just saw post on the fact that calcium chloride is the active ingredient. I don't know if the panty hose would clog up or not. Seems logical that it would just drip out. Give it a try & break new ground! Either way you have to empty the collected water once in a while.

Cool. So does the strainer sit in a cup shape half way down the bucket? So, then the bucket can fill with 2 1/2 gallons water and the pellets are sitting above where the water collects in the top half of the bucket? Thanks
