    Hex Sizes

    Does anyone know the sizes of the allen keys needed to take the plugs out of the bottom of the block- and the exhaust sizes too?

    I did mine last week on a 1996 196 and it was the same size as the ratchet its self with no sockets on.If that means anythnig to you.Mine was just a square drive.

      The exhaust manifolds either need a 1/2" socket wrench w/o the socket or a 1 1/16" box-end wrench depending on your configuration. (plug will either have a square in the middle or be a huge hex plug)
      The block needs a 7/8" socket. I use the socket that goes into a 1/2 driver. If using a 3/8" driver, the short socket isn't long enough to go over the knock sensor area, and the long/deep socket is so long it gets in the way of other things in the engine. ...but the 7/8" socket that goes in the 1/2" driver seems to work quite well for me.

        if your boat does not have knock sensors then a 9/16" socket is the block size
