    2004 SV 211 Winterizing questions

Thanks for the previous help! But I've got a few more:

What weight oil for the Chevy 330 engine? What is the capacity? Told 25/40 but can't find it at parts store.

I was also advised to use oil extractor on this engine. Agreed? I suppose I go down the dip stick hole?

Also, where are all the drain plugs on this engine? I found one on each side of engine (port side with knock sensor). Are there others? I also drained the filter, intake hose, heater hoses and heater, and whatever you call those huge plugs on each side.

    Thanks guys!

RE: 2004 SV 211 Winterizing questions

It depends on what oil you want to use. There are tons of threads on oil philosphy. I use Mobil1 syn 15W50 in my SAN, and Valvoline VR1 20w50 in my other boats and my wife's old car.

Oil extractor goes down through the dipstick. Super easy.

Sounds like you got all the plugs covered. Are you filling with antifreeze or just leaving it? Where are you located?

Check to see if there is a built-in drain tube connected to the oil pan. Not sure where it is on the SV-211 but it should be hanging somewhere in the engine compartment.

My 06 211 has an oil drain hose that reaches to the drain hole in the bottom of the boat. I just throw the drain pan on the ground under the boat and let it drain... The hose was tough to find the first time as they run it up the back side of the engine and clip it to the intake manifold on top of the engine..

Evacuators work way faster. I don't even bother with the drain hose on my boats.

I actually use the evacuator/pump attached to the drain hose. Works very well.

Thanks. I'm in Central Alabama and do not plan to run antifreeze. I never did on my 2001 and had no problems. Am I wrong here?

As long as you drain all of the water out of the system your fine, whether or not to fill it with AF afterwards is personal preference, I do to make sure their aren't any residual pockets of water somewhere in the system - especially with a heater since they are very susceptible to freeze damage.
