I have had the exact same thing happen to me this weekend (both the water coming over the stern, occasionally over the bow, and even over a portion of the sundeck). Unfortunately I did also get water in through the vent line as well. Not fun but was able to get most (hopefully all) of it out by draining the fuel-water seperator, etc. I eventually removed the vent line from the thru-hull, used celophane banded around the inside portion of the vent to block water flow, and let the fuel vent hose stay tucked up into the side V-drive compartment (I left the Sundeck up when I started the boat so I didnt blow myself up). I am planning on re-routing it to another portion of the boat. I typically have about five hundred pounds of lead, a 750# ballast at the Vdrive surf side, 350# in the belly, and 650# in the bow. Plus, a person in the bow, and a couple on the surf side of the boat. Throws a great wake but it is really easy to cause a fair amount of water to enter the boat, especially trying to turn the boat to pick up the surfer if another boat is heading for him. I am thinking about putting a higher output bilge pump in the rear, and then possibly a third bilge pump in the very forward portion of the ski locker.

Just a thought about how I dealt with the problem

I know this is a late reply, but I do sac it out so much that I get water in the vents - just be careful how you drive and hit other wakes, also keep your bilge on (I do "now"). Another thing you can do is put a towel that drapes over the slot - it's not water proof but it deflects alot of the water.

Something I have done that really seems to help is.... I take a "water winnie", cut to lenght and notch it length wise and shove it in.

I'm guessing one could duct tap it. I just don't water the sticky on my boat for something else to clean.

I got the lead from bomb wake (www.bombwake.com) in Gilbert az. They come in 50# bags which are really well made, with reinforced handles to help with moving the bags. I lay them along the rail of the loaded side as close to under the gunnel as possible to maximize surf wake size I also can move them around the boat and to the bow to decrease the size of the wake for my few friends who ski. Let me know if you want pics of locations or the wake and I can take some this weekend

I bought the lead through bombwakes here in Phoenix. They would be heavy to ship anywhere but they also sell just the well made nylon bags with reinforced webbing, and i am sure any metal shop can direct you on how to get lead pellet,
