    (De)Winterization

Open question for all: What exactly is involved in winterizing and thus dewinterizing a closed-cooling (ZR6) V drive? My understanding was that there is a plug to drain the V drive which used frewshwater but that the engine required no special attention. The dealer (now defunct!) did the winterization and I was thinking I could reverse it if needed when the time came.

Also any recommendations for decals for reg. numbers (ie, brand/style/where to buy)?

    Thanks

The winterization process varies from person to person or service dept to service dept, but in general as you get ready to run in the Spring I would:

    1. Insure all raw water drain plugs are back in place
    2. Check all hose connections to insure they are tight.
    3. Make sure the raw water strainer is installed and snug.
    4. Put the impeller back into the raw water pump (RWP) if removed (this is common), its also possible the RWP isn't fully bolted on to facilitate putting the impeller back in - this is what I do...
    5. Make sure the drain plug is in.
    6. Hook the battery back up.
    7. Double check engine, transmission, and vdrive oil levels just to be sure.

I would also turn the boat over while in the water but still on the trailer and let it idle for a bit to make sure everything is running correctly prior to pushing off.

So the dealer didn't write out on the service order/slip what they did? Maybe correct craft corporate can help you locate some of the techs that used to work there so you can get a clear picture of what their procedure was?

    Hope this helps,

One other thing that might be worth it is get your new dealer to go over it, just in case. They should know what to look for. One overlooked item can do wonders.

Check to make sure your coolant is at the proper level.

There have been some issues with the orange antifreeze jelling in some cars. If yours is more than two or so years old, it would be a good idea to drain, flush, and refill the closed cooling system.

I have also heard to NOT mix it stronger than 50/50. It gels and cakes more if it doesn't have enough solvent in it.

              Thanks for the advice

I will have the people at Race City (they are doing warranty for CC now that HQ marine is gone) come and do it and maybe I will "help" and see what is involved. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing for sure. Itching to get back out there soon, though.
