    Minimum Depth / Depth Buzzer

Hey guys I have the Nautique LINC system and there is a setting for Minimum Depth for the Depth Buzzer alarm to go off... just wondering what do you guys set this at?

And whats the safety limit? I think the shallowest I have gone with my old boat is about 2~3 feet of water, could see the sand/dirt got kicked up by the propeller ...scary

Not sure how to set it on your system, but in general I find the alarm doesn't help since its too late by the time it goes off if your doing anything more than headway speed. The owners manual should tell you the draft on your model, its probably 30" or so without ballast. I initially set my depth finder to have the alarm go off at 3 feet, but in the end it was nothing but a pain since various conditions (choppy, murky, etc) will cause it to misread the depth on occasion. Best thing is to know the body of water your in - many lakes/bays have detailed depth charts you can buy, dinging or losing your prop is a sure fire way to ruin your outing/vacation.

You really cannot depend on a depth sounder to warn you in time of an underwater hazard. I agree, with the idea of knowing the body of water you are in.
