Sorry if this has already been discussed (I did a search – found lots on the FCC, but not this). Are there any tricks for removing the filter element from the canister? I got the canister off, but the element is stuck in the bottom.

Now I guess I will just go ahead a completely embarrass myself. If the “trick” is to shove something up though the plug hole in the bottom of the canister, would someone suggest a sealant to use to apply to the plug when reinstalled? The manual says to use a fuel resistant sealant. My grand plan was to not drain the canister and just pull it off full of fuel (which I did) – that way I would not need to figure out what to put on the plug when it was reinstalled.

I would advise against the teflon tape and suggest using a teflon paste. I have read a lot that using the tape on a fuel line may have the tape break appart uppon install and possibly get into the fuel line and make it to the carb valve or fuel injector and potentially create a clog. I always use teflon paste for this reason.

The plug on the bottom of the FCC is exactly that, a plug. It is not a fitting that gas flows past. Carefully applying Teflon to the plug, so it does not unwrap, and then putting the plug into the tapered hole in the bottom of the FCC, and tightening it would tend to force the Teflon tape further down the plug, and away from contact with gas in the FCC.
Since the FCC operates at a slight pressure, and not a vacuum, I do not believe there is much of a possibility that the tape will be drawn into the FCC.
If you have Teflon paste, you can use it. but I think it would have more of a tendency to end up in the gas in the FCC, because it is a paste, and not a solid material that is applied to the threads.
