Buying a 1998 Air Nautique... Any Concerns?

It is more of a question of hole-shot and popping people out of the water when you are running with ballast. However, I have the GT40, which has plenty, and have never been behind the HO Carb or the 265 hp 351, so I cannot comment on their respective performance. My Tige has a Merc 350 with 265 HP and pops a boarder out just fine, even with weight in the boat, but I have never put more than 1000 lbs of ballast in my Tige, and my Tige is a smaller boat.

The HP might be a factor if you intend to barefoot, especially multiple footers.

So we are proud owners of a '98 Air Nautique. Thanks to everyone for your help in the process. You have gained a member to the your forums.

We had a mechanic check out the boat, and he said it was the Ford 351 engine with GT heads (no idea of the hp). Better than no GT at all.

It is very easy. Open up the motorbox cover. If it looks like this (see pic), then it is a GT40 (i.e., it will say GT40 in the little oval toward the front of the engine).

Oh, and Zteg, this is the best boat owner forum I have ever seen. The only one close is CCFan, and that's also for correct crafts! You will love your new boat, but be prepared. Owning a Correct Craft can become a passion.
