"O-Ring Lubricant" - Any suggestions on what product I should use?

Any suggestions on what type of product I should use when replacing the o-rings in my FCC unit?

"Owners Manual directions : #9 - Install the new O-rings in the sam location. Lubricate the new O-rings with a fuel risistant O-ring lubricant."

    Thanks for the help.

I have installed many an o-rong in the past and a light film of grease works just fine. And considering that the fuel may remove some of it I still found I was able to remove the FCC canister witout any problem.

      Good Question!

I noted the same referrence to a fuel resistant O-ring Lubricant on my Fuel Filter, no luck on internet search. There was some website that had silicone based O-ring sealants, and no adverse indications. 90-100% silicone is used for rubber gasket and O-ring to metal sealant BUT I am not sure if this is the recommeded product. I may call PCM and if I get and answer will post. Wonder what kind of grease Fatboy206 is referring to?

      Anyone else, anyone, anyone? Buehler?

I use Vaseline petroleum jelly - it's what I keep in the shop for all o-ring applications.

Vaseline is the only way to go....definitely agree. We use this in the manufacturing environment in almost all applications.
          Peace..

Thanks for the comments. I searched around also after posting the thread and finally settled on using some multi-purpose grease I had around the garage. I put a little dab in my hand then worked it into the o-ring and wiped off any excess before installing. Not sure if that helps anyone. I'll try some vaseline next time. Thanks again.

              Marine Fuels

You can buy Marine Fuels in the Middle East from Hamburg Trading House. The company is based in Dubai, UAE, from where they serve the Middle East and nearby areas.

Petroleum jelly is really best for this use.

                  Vasoline is good.
I have taken automotive classes at a local community college, and when we were putting automatic transmissions together, Vasoline was used.
When I was working at a Correct Craft dealer, they had some transmission assembly lube, it was a transparent red color.

You just need to get the grease on the "O" ring, on the outside of the cannister, and the threads below the "O" ring, before it is screwed into the top of the FCC. Try to avoid getting any grease in side the FCC.

This is the stuff I currently use:

The picture did not come out very well, it is a tube of "2-4-C" grease, available at any Mercury outboard, I/O dealer.

It is pretty much my general purpose grease I use for things in my boat. It does make an especially good rudder port lubricant.

my two cents... O rings designed raw water or fresh water should be lubed with 100% silicone. I was told that petroleum products may break down the rubber and lead to failure. I tend to agree, so any aquarium store will have a tube of it to sell...less that $5 and will last you several years

X3 or 4 on the vaseline.

Other products can do harm to o rings,
