Can I convert 4 wire to 5 wire?

I just acquired a 2004 Ski Nautique with a Ram-lin trailer. The trailer has surge brakes and a 5 wire flat electrical connector. My truck is wired with a 4 wire flat connector that fits a utility trailer that I have. I am able to connect the 4 wire connector from my truck to the 5 wire on a Ram-lin trailer to tow the boat, but there is no power to disengage the surge brakes. There is a workaround as I have to turn the connector around in order to back-up the trailer. This is annoying, but workable solution for now.

Is there such thing as a converter that can connect the 4 wire to 5 wire? I don't want to rewire the truck to a 5 wire as I need to be able to connect to the 4 wire utility trailer.

    Thanks

    Mike

There is an adapter that will fit into the stock 4 flat plug. You will have to splice into your backup lights with the fith additional wire on the adapter. It's a quick, easy install. But honestly I would just get a 5 flat plug and replace your stock 4 flat. Again, it's a quick install and you will still have to splice into your backup lights. Would probably only take 5 min total. You can still plug your utility trailer lights with a 4 flat plug into the 5 flat you just installed. The fifth prong will just not be used. This is what I do with no problems. I don't ever recommend trying to back your trailer with out the brake lockout functioning. It can do some serious damage to your trailer. I've heard of instances where axles get fliped over by doing this.

no you can not convert 4 to 5. You must tie into your backup lights. Its a 5 min job, not a "truck rewire". You can use your 5 wire plug with your 4-wire utility trailer.

Thanks for all the info. I will rewire my truck to a flat 5 wire plug so I can use with both my Ram-lin and utility trailer
        Thanks
