I am about to order an extra thru hull for my SAN and I am going to also re-plumb the stock one to add in Ballast Puppies and Sacs. Looking at both the stock elbow, ball valve, and thru hull gave no indiction of size other than what appeared to either read 1"AXXXXX or THAILAND on an elbow (or at least that's what it looked like). I know the plumnbing is 3/4", but the thru hull and valve assembly appear to by 1". Can anyone confirm this?

How sure are you? Did you have one you replaced?
I'm adding a second thru hull and ball valve. I am just routing the stock one straight up to feed a Ballast Puppy. Right now it runs into an elbow. I am going to measure it this weekend just to make sure I don't need to order more/different parts. Everything downstream of the ball valve is for sure 3/4". I'll post back the results.
The stock setup is what looks like a 1" thru hull -> 1" elbow -> 1" x 3" male/male adapter -> Buck Algonquin 1" shut-off" -> 1" thread to 3/4" hose flange elbow -> 3/4" hose to rule pumps
I am going to replace with:
Stock thru hull -> stock buck algonquin shut-off -> 1" thread to 1" hose fitting -> 1" hose to ballast puppies. Adding a second one as well.Last edited by steve-o; 03-05-2010, 03:41 PM.

I am positive it's a 3/4 NPT or pipe thread. It looks larger because Pipe thread is not measured from the outside diameter. If you want to feel fuzzy about it take the original valve to the hardware store and check it.2001 Super Air Nautique

Its national pipe. I had to get a 90 for my setup and that is what I used. The 90 was the only non factory part that I have in my system.2001 Super Air Nautique

Has anyone verified if the thru-hulls are combo thread rather than straight? I too would not enjoy replacing the thru-hulls in my 2002 SAN
Has anyone tried threading NPT (tapered) onto NPS (straight)? If so, does it bind up immediately? Could be a good way to tell if the thru-hull is straight

I still can't answer, but I reused my stock; and I am almost certain it is NPS. The ball valve is NPT. The new ball valve seated fine. I used teflon tape on it. No leaks and it threaded very deep and tight. I will keep an eye on it regardless.
As an afterthought, I wish I would have replaced it with a mushroom. If I leave my ball valve open, water does push past my ballast puppies and fills my bags with the scupper intake. I will replace one day.

It wouldn't surprise me if CC was matching NPS with NPT. A lot of manufacturers do it, but that doesn't mean its the right way.
I too would like to change to mushroom style, I just don't want to mess with the way the scupper is nicely glassed into the hull

Mine isn't glassed for the ballast. It sits on the outside. The water pickup is glassed into a recess though. I don't want to spend an hour trying to break 3M 5200 sealant. I had thought about drilling or cutting the slots all the way through my scupper with a Dremel to let the water flow through.

I considered using masking tape and layering it with duct tape all around where I was going to cut it, but I just said heck with it and cut them. Took me about 15 minutes a piece to do and I didnt hurt anything underneath. And if you do, just use a gel patch kit and get it close. It isnt like anyone will see where you messed up under there.
