2000 SAN 2 gauge -> 3 gauge

Looking at a 2000 SAN but the boat has a two gauge dashboard (speedo and tach + 4 smaller ones) and no space for Perfect Pass. So if we're gonna go with PP the Tach or Speedo has to go. Not an ideal situation. Is it possible to convert the dash to a three gauge dash? I think it's only swapping the backing plate, or am I wrong?

Laptom, the center piece that is on that dash (the N logo) is just a temporary cover up of that hole. You just have to remove that and put the new gauge in there.

Ski I've seen them with no N logo in the center. I would assume your dealer could get the dash but i'm betting it's pricy. Having said that there is a Faris retrofit kit for your boat for about 200.00. You get Faria Speedo, Tach, paddlewheel or harness if youv'e bought PP. Since PP displays RPMs or Speed depending on the setting I would replace the speedo with PP and just add the Tach

Rick you are correct. There were some of those dash pods that didn't have the room for the 3rd guage. I do not have any experience with the Faria upgrade. I have seen the guages and that is about it. I would think that someone else on the site could shed light on that aspect of it.

to my simi trained eye, looks like a dash pod would be an easy swap... its just a shell on top of the deck structure... find a bone yard with one if possible... but owning a fine teleflex insturment myself... just pull the speedo and install the perfect pass.... it works much better....

I have the same exact issue as you. My 2000 only has 2 guages. Well I was told just to swap the old speedo with the PP guage. Well my stereo when out so I installed a new one with a new remote. the new remoted needed a mouting. So I mounted it next to my dash. So I am going to install the PP where the old remote was that or I am going to swap out one of the dash guages with the remote and put it there. The only bad thing is I will need the small PP guage instead of the large one if I do it this way...

Thanks guys, I don't know exactly what I'm gonna do. But it's a dash with no room (or as I can see on the pics plenty of room, but no N-logo cover) for a third gauge... I'm gonna see with the dealer how it's gonna be solved, I like the luxury of three gauges and everything original Nautique.

ssaxet, I think you right. I know they are shells on top of the deck, but I don't know if a 3 gauge shell is gonna fit. With other words; if the sizes of the shells are the same... I guess that there aren't alot of people tried it. No dealers who knows it?

If you are looking for a smaller diameter hole (compared to the ones on the newer boats), PP does make a 3.5" gauge. I don't know if they make something smaller than that if the space you have available is less than 3.5" in diameter.

Other option is to remove one of your existing gauges and replace it by the PP.

PP also makes a rectangular gauge that can be mounted in places other than the dash. In my opinion, this is not the prettiest solution but might work well for certain installs.

The picture on this reply is the officials display for the judge on the boat (used in tournaments). The one that PP makes for the driver is very similar but includes a mount/bracket to make it a permanent install.

Twintip, thanks for your reply. But I like to keep everything clean, so no ad-ons as brackets or stuff. I think the most logical solution is replace the 2 gauge shelf with the 3 gauge shelf and install all 3 gauges... Sounds easy, only have to find a 3 gauge shelf...

Laptom call your dealer and get the price for the dash insert for either the carbon fiber version or the wood grain version. You have a early production 2000 which came like that and all yoou have to do is switch out the panel to the one with the three big holes for the big gauges.

nms1991, are you sure? This is the info I needed. I still have to contact the dealer, but I hope that they could deliver the dash insert...

Laptom I am very sure because I have converted a few boats to the three gauge but you will have to cut out the dash pod behind the gauge bezel in the area for the big gauges only. The gauges should be 3 3/8" may be 3 1/4" but only cut out the minimum needed for gauge instalation.
