MF01, It sounds to me like you have a minor carb problem, not a starter problem. It will be $150-200 to have someone rebuild it. Money well spent.

      No carb, fuel injection.

Sometimes it won't crank with the first turn of the key when cold. Almost like it's stuck.

Sorry, I presumed carb on the 94.

When you say "crank" in the first statement, you meant turning the key then? Have you checked all your connections?

Sometimes I turn the key and nothing, like something's stuck.

Yeah, I meant that the starter is actually moving for 10 seconds. It sounds weaker than I think it should. I replaced the starter relay, cleaned all connections with electrical cleaner, replaced the push button ignition breaker, checked voltage at key, new plugs, fuel filter, checked fuel pressure, BG44k in tank, and got a replacement battery. It starts right away when warm. Also, it runs great after started. The only things I can think of are weak/failing starter or possibly ignition timing.

You can determine if the starter motor is good by taking a shorting wire and connecting from the battery directly to the small wire connection on the starter motor. If the starter runs/spins and engages with the flywheel and cranks your engine over then you know the starter is good and likely your problem is with the starter relay. If it does not crank the engine the starter is bad and could be that the brushes are worn out. They could be replaced or just get a new starter motor.
Well I took the boat out today and no issues at all. I talked to white lake and a mechanic and they both said the exact same thing so good advice. They did also suggest lefting cover to see if you can here the relay clicking.

              HI

Would you say your relay is clicking in and the starter is struggling to turn the engine?? If this is the case perhaps you have water in the bores or your ignition timing is too far advanced. Try removing all plugs and crank it, beware of sparks from plugs, first disconnect coil. Look for water coming out the plug holes. If all OK, put back plugs and try again, ig still slow to turn over try retarding the spark, loosen distributor and turn slightly clockwise (i think!) if not, or gets worse try anti clockwise..also depends on LH or RH engine rotation.
