    Fixing a gelcoat stain

I removed the PCM decals from gunwales, and one side left a yellow stain from the adhesive or dirt that was trapped under the sticker. How deep into the gel could a stain go? I wet sanded the spot with 1500 and it didn't do the trick. I was thinking about starting with 1,000 and trying it again, but won't bother if the gel could be impregnated too deep.

I would try some acetone before I did a lot of sanding. Gel is hard, but it is porous. The acetone may dissolve away
some of the glue in the pores. Acetone won't hurt gell coat. I also would probably let the sun do its thing before I did a lot sanding. The sun will often lighten up mild staining on both the gell coat and the upholstery. My $.02. Take it for what it's worth.

I had the same problem and the sun took care of it. I used accetone before it was out in the sun and then waxed.

I didn't think of acetone. I'll give that a shot, thanks.

Try Comet but don't rub it

You can try a poultice of Comet. The bleach will pull the stain out. Don't rub it off though let it sit on the stain for 15 minutes then rinse it off.

i have heard of this stuff called on off or it may be called on & off but you are going to have to probably get it from a boat dealer and i heard that you just put it on then wait a minute or two and rinse it off and that that removes a bunch of stains and discoloration.. so you might could give that a try.
