    steam.....

So today I fired up the boat at the river for the first time this year.....it runs like a charm but it seems like on the port side of he engine there may be some kinda water leak causing a little steam from the water hitting the manifolds. It looks like its coming from in between the manifold and the risers. Is this a common gasket to go bad? It was doing it on the starboard side a little bit but that side stopped. Any Other ideas? I did change oil and trans fluid and they looked great.thanks. its a83 ski nautique 2001 351 w 600 hours. Velvet drive 1:1

I'll give it a shot. Is this a salt water boat or has it ever been used in salt water? If not you may want to change your gaskets out. Not that hard of a job. If it has been used in salt water you may need to change the manifolds and risers. Either way this is not good. If water is leaking inside like it is coming out you could do some damage.

Yes, it is common for the riser gaskets to go bad. Just replace them, remove rust on the bolted surfaces before re-assembly.

I've had steam come off the engine before on the first time I started the boat in the spring because there was a little oil on the manifold that I had probably dripped when I replaced the oil before winterizing it...that may be it???

make sure you use high tack or something similar. Just cross your fingers and hope you don't snap any bolts taking the risers off. The only other pain is the baffles when putting it all back together. Good luck.
