    206 proping query

G'day all - I have a ski nautique 206 (2007 model) and use it mainly for skiing & footing - fantastic wake for skiing but footing wash leaves a little to be desired (big hole!!!). My question is has anybody tried a different prop from the standard that they come fitted with (4 blade but I don't know the specs) that changes the profile of the wash or gives a little more top end speed? Happy to hear any stories, good or bad, or any other suggestions. Cheers

I suspect a 3-blade like the 470 (or the 1442 if it fits) would improve top speed by a mph. It wont help your prop wash though- in fact, it may get worse. I highly recommend a longer line (90')... at that length the prop wash is more than tolerable on the TSC2 196.

Correct. Wash is worse on the 470. Pull is softer. Get up and top speed are basically the same. See chart.

Here are the only props available from ACME with the proper diameter/shaft/rotation. Your only real choice for more low end is 654 but might over rev high end. 1606, 1604, 1210 are clearly pitched too low IMO.

Part # DIA Pitch Cup BLD Bore ROT
        1606 12.5 11.5 .040 cup 3 1" RH
        1604 12.5 11.5 .060 cup 3 1" RH
        1210 12.5 12 .080 cup 3 1" RH
        470 12.5 15 .105 cup 3 1" RH
        654 12.5 15 .105 cup 4 1" RH
        422 12.5 15.5 .105 cup 4 1" RH
        668 12.5 15.5 .150 cup 4 1" RH

The RPM vs. speed chart is fine and dandy, but it doesnt tell us much in regards to performance. Of course the 470 will turn a few more revs than the 422 at any given speed... it has 1/2" less pitch. For the same reason, it comes out of the hole faster, not softer. Ive measured this on multiple boats. Ive seen a consistent 1/2-1mph increase in top speed as well.

I suspect the 1442 would be an option for the TSC2 boats... but I havent tried it (yet). It has a bit more diameter (13.25), but I think the keel "tunnel" of the TSC2 (absent in the TSC1) will allow it to clear. Ill be trying it this spring/summer... that prop may in fact be the hot ticket. I love it on my '90.

I didn't have a good way to measure the hole shot. I did change from one prop to the other on the same trip and noticed a bit more bow rise with the 470 so that might indicate a hair more low end thrust. The three blade made driving the boat easier but didn't have the bite of the 4-blade when powering out of a sharp turn.

I may try another prop this year as well. If I travel to Canyon Lake (all rock) I will take an extra prop with me and then likely sell it after if I don't plan another trip for a year or so.
