    1999 pro air, small leak?

    1999 pro air, small leak?
i have a 1999 pro air, i keep the boat in the water during the summer. i know there is a drip from the prop shaft, i believe i have it adjusted it properly.

i think i am taking on a small amount of water elsewhere, and don't know where it could be coming from. it's not coming from the engine either.

is there any other seals or anything that could be causing the leak?

    thanx

Rudder Packing? Thru-hulls/valves? Pitot (speedometer) tubes? Is it leaking while it's sitting or only when the engine is on? If it leaks when the engine is on, check all hoses and clamps, especially if you have a shower. Another one that helped with my boat was tightening the hose clamps on the through-hull exhaust pipe, since that's usually at or below the water line.

Not on my Nautique, but on my Tige I also had to tighten the hose clamps on the exhaust near the propshaft. I was taking on water there.

Regardless of whether you are taking on water, you should check all hoseclamps annually at the very least. They do loosen up. Use a 5/16" nutdriver, not a screwdriver.

                Muffler Plug

There is also a small wooden plug in the bottom of the muffler it may have popped out or the muffler may have abraded so there is a small hole in it. That's where my small leak was after the rudder and prop shaft.

I had a crack in the muffler on my 1997 Ski Nautique, that I was able to find only by starting the boat with the back floor piece out of the boat. When you sit for a little while, the muffler fills with water, and when you start the boat, the muffler temporarily get high pressure, from the exhaust having to push the water back out again.
I used heavy fiberglass cloth, and epoxy resin to fix it.
Make sure you are not getting any leaks in your ballast system first.

Hopefully you only have to try 1 thing.

On my 99 Sport, the engine thru hull developed a slow leak and it was hard to find. With the clamshell open using a flashlight you could see a water mark that ran from the thru hull to the center bottom of the bilge (only a few inches). By removing the thru hull nut, sanding off the old sealant to make the surface flat and smooth, putting new sealant (3M 4200) and screwing back on the nut, it was fixed. Did not have to remove the thru hull.
