Water Trickles from Exhaust in Driveway unless engine is revved to prime water pump

I have a 2003 210 Limited and since I bought it, I could always hook the hose up in the driveway, start the engine, and within 20 seconds I'd get great water flow out of the exhaust. Recently the dealer removed some old impeller pieces from the the V-Drive housing which were causing the temps to increase at slow boat speeds. Now when I hook the hose up, in order to get any water flow at all, I have to rev the engine in neutral to prime the pump. After that, the water flow is fine.
Should I be concerned that there may still be some blockage, or is is it pretty typical to have to prime the pump when on a garden hose to get the water flow started?

Once I start my engine, nearly no more water comes through my pickup, all of it goes from the hose to the engine. I do not need to prime.

Thanks - that is how mine used to work as well. It makes no sense that now that the line is theoretically cleaner since they removed the old impeller parts, that it now requires revving to get the water flowing - that's counter-intuitive.

I remove the hose after the strainer, and clamp the garden hose in that. I have a flush fitting prior to the strainer but have never been able to get it to do anything but dump out the thruhull intake.

Thanks for the input. I'm starting to wonder if the water pump just does a better job of suction on some boats than others. Maybe my water pump is just showing some wear all of a sudden.

What does your temp do if you don't rev? If there is an issue, it will overheat in idle when you put it back in the lake. My '03 210 flows at start-up, like yours used to.

not wanting to prime is one sign of a weak impeller, just replace it.
