    Ballast Upgrade

I have an 01 SAN with stock system had a few questions:

1.Do ballast puppys prevent bags from filling or do they free spool allowing water to enter bags when not engaged in fill or empty?
2.Do bags need air relief valves like tanks or can I use the overflow lines coming out of top of tanks as overflow to know bags are full & prevent them from popping assuming bags have two valves?
3.Would you suggest I pull tanks place a bag on each side and use 2 Jabsco to fill and empty each side also how are you guys keeping up with how full bags are? Visually I am assuming.

    1. Ballast puppies act as check valves. They are not freewheeling, but some guys do have issues with them passing a little water. This is part of why I like my thru hull intakes under my swimdeck. I do not use the factory scoop intake.

    2. Just use the tank vent as your bag vent. I think my 750's have three caps. One on the bottom rear, and two on top. Use the bottom as the fill and one of the tops for the vent.

    3. Yes, pull the tanks and put in 750's. And yes, visually unless you are filling to max capacity, and then they spit water out the vent when full.

The only thing I would add to what wakeslayer is saying is research and consider using the johnson pumps. They are rated for about 730gpm vs the jabsco at about 550. They are a little cheaper too. I have not done any researching as far as benefits over the ballast puppies myself, but have heard good preliminary things.
