    Engine temp guage

What is the easiest way to tell if i have a guage malfunction? Upon starting my 01 Air, all the guages
bounced to the right hand side, but only the engine temp guage didnt come back to the left. Any
suggestions? I dont want to pull it all the way to the dealer for something silly, but i also dont have to money
    replace to engine!

disconnect the wire from the sending unit on the engine block and see if the guage drops to zero - it should. I had the same problem and replaced the sending unit when in fact it was the guage. Total price was 40 bucks and very easy to do. I should have replaced the guage first.

Be sure to check a couple things...

Having just taken my 04 SAN to the dealer (and forked over $$$) due to temp gauge problems, if I could do it over I would (1) check the temp gauge--it could be stuck open, (2) check the sending unit--replacements are cheap and easy to do, and (3) check the temp gauge on the dash. Even if you had to replace all three of these things, which by the way is fairly straightforward, it would still cost considerably less than asking the dealer to diagnose then fix the problem.

      Just my thoughts...

        I had same problem

I had the same problem with my Nautique - I changed the sending unit and no luck - changed the gauge and presto - worked fine - easy to do and not expensive.
