    05' ex330 acceleration problems

first time out on my boat today. everything seemed fine until it was time to plane off. all gauges read fine and perfect pass works once it drudges up to speed, but when i floor it to plane off it goes at first and then just slows down some and takes a long time to plane off, and if i pull back on the throttle some it goes faster for a sec. there was a little silver stopper on the cable by the arrestor that was loose, but no matter where i put it i had the same problem. could this be due to leaving a small amount of gas in it over the winter w/o sta-bil? if so how can i clean out the fuel injectors? any tips or pics of how the cable should look would be much appreciated so i don't have to take it to the shop if avoidable. guess this is a plus one on that semi sale i've got going.

Sounds too simple I know but does it do the same thing with perfect pass off? Sounds like it's engaging. Did you hear a single loud beep? If so, that's exactly what it is.

ya same thing with it off or on. once it finally gets to speed it beeps as usual and holds the speed. but it took forever to get me up on a skate with 2 people in the boat and no ballast. no water in engine compartment. just sluggish after the initial acceleration.

If your throttle cable is not hooked up in the correct place you will have weird acceleration issues. Someone needs to post a pic of their set up. With an 05, you really shouldn't have water seperator issues, but with todays gas, who knows. My opinion is you should always store your boat almost full and use stabil. A nearly empty tank will allow condensation in it. Assuming you gassed up, any condensation should be caught by the fuel water separator. If you have done this several seasons, maybe that is the problem. My boat is a 99 and I have never touched mine.

only season i didn't winterize. and the cable is the same it's always been, but something either got moved or needs to be moved. would a servo test help or b/c it happens w/ pp off too is that a non issue?

add a can of seafoam to the tank and fill it up with premium gas and drive the boat until you've ran out all of the old gas and your problem will be gone, next year use stabil, and if you keep it garaged in the winter it really doesn't make a difference if the tank is full or not, why have it full and the gas go bad anyway with stabil doesn't make much since to me. the stabil is to prevent the fuel from breaking down and varnishing up the plumbing not to keep the gas fresh, but change out the fuel/water seperator, add the seafoam fill up the tank then cruise at 3/4 throttle for a long time to flush out the fuel system and it'll take care of it's self, common for a boat to run like this first outting of the season.

you mean replace the pleated filter? i have to order it so im going to try seafoam and premium and see if that helps. a pic anyone's ex throttle cable would be a big help too. thanks again.

what position does the throttle rest at when all the way down? 9 o'clock or is it lower to the floor than that?

Should be lower to the floor than 9.

Your first step is to check the fuel pressure. PCM engines without the catalyst manifolds do not have an O2 sensor, and there is no feedback to the engines computer what the fuel air ratio is. The computer just assumes the fuel pressure is within specs, and opens the fuel injectors the appropriate amount of time for the engines operating conditions.
Yes, you could have water in your gas, and other issues, but you have to know the fuel pressure is correct.

i am going to ttake the boat out tomorrow witha full tank of 93 and some seafoam and run it out. if that doesn't solve the problem i am going to replace the pleated filter and have my pressure checked.

Not sure about an '05, but my '03 San EX330 acted like that and it ended up being the cap and rotor. They were all completely corroded. Replaced that and it was a whole new boat.

filled the tank with 93 octane, put in 2 cans of sea foam. the boat ran great all day. i pulled 3 people wakeboarding with just people, no ballast and all was good. after picking up the last rider the boat went into reduction mode at 2000rpms and the check engine light came on. oil pressure and oil level check out. engine temp was fine, volts fine, no water in compartment. anybody have any ideas? i am going to replace the fuel filter, but will that help it or do i need to have my fuel injectors cleaned maybe? im going to have my pump pressure tested this week. also the **** guy put in green dex instead of pink so i have to get that flushed out. i hate my life oh and the strainer is clean also

I have been told by my local dealer that in 05 there was an intermittent problem with the oil pressure switch (seperate from the the oild pressure gauge sender) that would sometimes trip a check engine light and sometimes not, but it would put it into limp home mode. I dont remember where that particular one is located but I know when it was disconnected, it would work but the error message would come up. It is an easy test, if you know where it is. I just cant remember. It was 3 years ago when that happened to me and I was just demoing the boat and was told what to do over the phone and it was fixed for the time beiing.

Judging by what you are saying, it may be or may not be related. I would try the switch first before you revamp the whole fuel system.
