I have a 02 SANTE with a depth finder that doesn't work. The local dealer suggested replacing the sending unit with one that is flush mounted on the outside of the boat instead of the stock one that reads thru the hull. This would require drilling a 2 inch hole in the bottom and installing the new sender. Has anyone tried this yet? What have you found to work ? I understand the thought process that a depth finder won't save a prop but in my lake a little planning and mapping prior may save me a prop later.

What make & model depth finder do you have? If it's a hummingbird 600, there are known issues with the head unit and you just have to get a 610 head unit to resolve the issue - it will work with the existing transducer. If you run a search for hummingbird or HDR 600 you will find lots of info.2018 Ski Nautique 200 TE, H6

I have the Faria depth, water temp, air temp gauge on order for my 98 Ski. These actually use a smaller than 2" diameter transducer. However, since the latest updates to Stargazer, I no longer have any use for my paddle wheel other than as a lake water temp sensor. So I contacted Faria and got a part number to special order the 2" transducer so that I could swap it for my paddle wheel and not have to drill another hole.
It's not installed yet, but I should have it up and running soon.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

I'm drilling a 2" hold for a Norcross/Hawkeye transducer this weekend; anyone have any suggestions on a certain location? Makes me nervous, but I had good luck with the same setup on a Sanger.Ken

I'm not sure it matters too much. These depth finders have a keel offset. So no need to worry about figuring out the lowest point. Mine is in the spot recommended for the perfect pass paddle wheel (because I already had the hole drilled) and works fine. Basically, about 6" to the port side and slightly (about 1--2") aft of the center drain plug.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Thanks ETX, I've been putting it off because of rain, but I'm glad to hear of a working location before getting out the drill. I'm using the paddle wheel, but think I can fit it beside it beside paddle or on the opposite sideKen
