2000 Pro Air Nautique gauge thoughts...not Faria and not Teleflex digital...

I have a 2000 Pro Air with the nifty Teleflex digital dash. I've also got PerfectPass w/ paddle wheel I'm going to upgrade to Stargazer GPS only. So, the paddle wheel will be available for water temp or a Faria speedo gauge. Here's where I deviate from normal... I'm upgrading the PP to Stargazer since on the Pro Air hull the paddle wheel is inconsistent at best, unless the boat is completely level and the water's glassy. So, why would I pay $$$ for Faria gauges to display the speed that the paddle wheel is inaccurately producing? I DO want a speed readout alternate from the GPS though, just in case no GPS signal. I'd like to use the rear pitot tubes with an older air pressure driven gauge - like the 1999 Airguides or similar. I believe the air tubes go from the rear to the computer that then tells the Teleflex gauges what to display? Anyone messed around with where the air tubes go from the rear of the boat? Any info y'all have would be helpful. I'm even game to try some things out, but don't want to tear into a lost cause adventure.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Pitot's

You might want to try and source an entire manual system. There are a few boats being parted out over on CorrectCraftFan.com and they might be able to get you the pickup and all the bits. From what I understand on the manual items is that there is an inverted copper tube of sorts to help regulate the pressure at the gauge.

      Have the old gauges Fixed

I think i would try to have the Speedo fixed or see if someone has one they would part with. If not you can use one of the pitot tubes in the rear You just have to splice into them where the enter the boat and hook it up to a manual Airguide. Honestly there isn't a speedo made that is accurate on a boat unless its GPS.

You can use any kind of guage. Just simply get another Deusch (sp) plug for it. I think I might still have the schematic for which wires go where. Buy some autometer marine or gaffrig guages. They look great!

I ride in rivers 1/2 of the time. In my case a GPS based speed is only good for calibrating water based speedos. Move the paddle wheel or give it a little twist, I did that with mine and works better now.

I'm a river runner as well so I was never sold on GPS for giving an accurate speed over water reading. I am going to run PerfectPass Pro and a manual airguide this year.

Well, I only have 3 years of use to go by, but my speedo on my 99 Air has been dead on since I bought my boat 3 years ago. I check it against a Garmin GPS a few times each summer, and it has been dead on at 20 mph and 23 mph every time. I have never had to adjust it. I have not checked it against every mph gradation, so I suppose it could still be inaccurate at other speeds.

I installed the PP GPS Stargazer this weekend and it's rock solid (on a lake). I'm going away from the PP paddle wheel since I've got the Pro Air hull and it's only good if the boat's perfectly balanced and running straight. That's why I'm entertaining the airguide or pitot tube speedo route. I'll look into the Deutsch gauge wire harness schematic. Unless anyone knows of a source for a digital speedo?
