Hey guys just looking to give my engine and carb a bit of a cleanup. I've got an 88 SN 2001. What is the best fuel treatment and carb cleaner? I have heard good things about seafoam, but wonder if there is something better out there you guys are using. Also, what is a good carb cleaner to use? Thanks!

The best carb cleaner I've used is the one from Mercury in the "Quicksilver" brand. I get mine at Bass Pro, but any mercruiser dealer or sporting goods store that has branded oil, etc should have it. What makes it work so well is that it comes out as a fairly thick foam...not as thick as shaving cream...but almost. It really grabs onto the carb and doesn't just run down into the intake. You can stick the red tube into the air horn, jets, etc. I once brought a carb back to life that had sat dry for six years. I foamed the *&#*@ out of it and let it sit overnight. Once I got the engine running, I foamed it several times over letting it sit a few minutes between runs.Last edited by AirTool; 05-15-2010, 11:59 PM.
