Hello, I recently got a new cover from commercial sewing with the vaccu-hold system. First question, does the back off the cover go underneath the rub rail? I can get it over it and tighten it up but as soon as I start moving it slides up above the rub rail. Any thoughts? Secondly, It came with posts that I assume is so water doesn't pool in the cover. Now where the heck do you attach it too on the boat?? the straps seem to be cut for a certain length and wont reach anywhere I can think of. And I don't have the instructions if anyone is wondering. Thanks!

I passed you on the road when I was coming back from Montana on Sunday; the cover looked like it was holding pretty well from my rear-view mirror despite some minor flapping. I would suggest sending Nautiquehunter a pm since he has the same boat and cover. He did mention replacing the ratchets with straps in a previous post, also posting a few pics may help too. BTW what made you choose a commercial sewing cover over a coversports cover which seem to very popular with members here? I'm only asking because I'm about to order a new cover too.

To keep the water out there are a few tricks. One go to home depot and get the small PVC piping and place it in your boat from side to side so that it creates an arch. Run your cover over this. Water will now roll over the sides. I use two pvc tubes in the back. ON the ends I have the pvc T adapters to give the ends some type of foot and it is smooth.
For the bow, do something similar. Wider tube though 3". have one end rest against your bow light or the hook that you have at the front. Cut a slit or groove the end so that it does not slide. I shaved cutdown a but so it sits flush with the bow surfave and the hook. Looks like a crazy spear. ON the parts that touches the boat I laced it with silicone. No scratches. On the other end it will rest on youir glass Cut it to the correct angle and silicone. Finally I drilled a hole about a foot fromt he top on the glass side. Through the hole I ran a string with a suction cup at both ends of the string. This keeps the f'r from sliding off the window.
Your cover should be able to run over this entire assembly now. and when it rains no puddling.
Oh also go get plumber pipe installation foam. It looks like those foam pads you put on a BMX handle bar. Run this on the top of your window when the cover is one. It eases the wearpoints on the top of the cover.
All of this should take about 2-3 hours to build and maybe $20-$30.
Good luck

mrbobolina -you have some good ideas ! I am going to try the PVC pipe arc in the rear. I have poles that tent the cover, but it flattens out near the rear/sides. Last week we had a downpour and I think the water hit so hard and fast on the rear section (over the rear seat) that the water started to pool and then got heavy pulling the cover down more...... and I got a lot of water in the boat.06 Ski Nautique 196 SE (2010)

Beachrat,
I'm not familiar with the cover that the OP is talking about, but I have a Rankin cover which is the same or very similar to a Coversports cover. As I understand it, Rankin is the company that the people from Coversports all came from before Rankin went belly up.
I don't think you can go wrong with a Coversports cover. They fit tight as a drum so there's no pooling and you don't have to mess around with poles or pvc frames. We had a very rainy winter in N. Cal (it's still raining as I type this) and my cover has kept the inside of my boat bone dry w/zero mildew.
I've towed with the cover on with zero issues too and there is no need to run straps under the hull because the rubrail grippers serve the same purpose.

I went with the commercial sewing because I was having troubles finding a coversport. And I heard good things about the vaccu-hold set up. Its a nice cover, just had some problems with the pooling but I think the straps inside loosened off on me. Once everything tightened up again it was good. Leaks alot around the tower though. Not to pleased about that.2008 SANTE 210 Orange Baby! Current

It keeps the water out and most importan lets the cover breath still so you do not get mildew and mold. I have went out after using this stuff and hade about 30 gallons of water sittingin my bow being held by the cover. Hence my need for the poles!

A picture of my cover is on this post

When you look at the picture from the rear it pools in the flat areas on the sides / rear. I just purchased a 10' X 20'canopy from Northern Tool - Shelter Logic - was on sale for $89 - for that price have to give it a try. It has survived a few good rains, we'll see when we get a good wind.06 Ski Nautique 196 SE (2010)
